These tires are impressive.  Twice today these tires were put to the test.  Traffic stopped quickly in front of me this morning and I hit the brakes.  I’m not one to stop quickly very often and this was impressive.  Of course the anti-lock brakes were very helpful but these tires felt like they just dug into the road.  There was not a hint of slipping.  I was probably going about 40 MPH and the tires gripped the road commandingly. It was impressive!

This evening I was driving on an unfamiliar road and was probably doing about 50 mph.  I saw a turn ahead but had no idea that it made about a 90 degree turn.  Again I hit the brakes this time while making a tight turn.  I had a bit more squeal this time but the Grabbers dug in to the road and I had no loss of control.  While I am ashamed of my driving right now, these tires performed exceptionally well.  I have about 5000 miles on these tires right now and they are every bit the tire they were rated to be.  I am extremely happy with the Grabber HTS tires.  I expect that had I had my old tires on the vehicle we would have been filing accident reports today.  These tires dug into the road like I never expected.  Thank you General!

This is the first time I have bought tires online. I was almost talked out of it by a local dealer until I did my homework. We were visiting family over the Christmas holiday and there are not a lot of outlets that carry the Grabber HTS but I found one and since were were going to be traveling back over 500 miles I was considering getting the tires while we were away. The dealer quoted me $575 for a set of 4 and he would not come off the price. I told him that I found the tires online much cheaper and he then tried to convince me that no one would put the tires on for me.

Fortunately I did my homework and called my local dealers at home. I called 2 and both said they would put the tires on quite reasonably without any problem. I also found recommended partners in my location and locations all over the country that will put the tires on for you listed on the website.

Your local guys may try to talk you out of it but I am looking at significant savings by ordering online.  I was skeptical about ordering online but I did my homework and saved some money.  My story and tips on buying tires online are on this page: Tires Online and you can check out my video here:

The process is easy and painless – and it can save you some money.  I recommend the Tire Rack.  They have all the tools to help you make the best choice and they are reliable.  Check them out here:

I love these, just had mine put on and these are the best tires. I’ll tell you more about how they are performing in later posts.

General Grabber HTS Tire

I’ve been researching the best tires for my Honda Pilot and I am very impressed with the General Grabber HTS. This tire is rated number one by Consumer Reports and by Tire Rack. My life is riding on my tires so I want the best and these tires are amazing. Tire Rack performed 22 tests on these next to Bridgestone and Pirelli – no slouches in tire performance. The Grabber HTS was top in EVERY test. Not only that but General engineered these with low rolling resistance meaning better gas mileage and better for the environment. AND they are priced affordably.

I used to think that low rolling resistance meant poor stopping – after all how can you have low resistance and still grab the road to stop. General figured it out and made this tire the best of everything. Several people have already commented on the excellent performance on snow and ice. One review is below from FourWheeler Magazine. Best yet, these tires are priced lower than many of the tires that perform worse. For me putting my family on the best tires at the best price is a no brainer.

The Grabber HTS is an SUV and Light Truck tire in the “all season tires” category. However as you will see, this tire also performs well compared to snow tires and off road tires.

Consumer Reports places General at the top of the list with this tire. Typically there are trade offs between traction, rolling resistance, noise factors and comfort but the Grabber seems to be able to roll all the best into one. I can’t publish the Consumer Report in whole but here is the news release from Reuters.

Some folks have commented that I am promoting these tires because I am an affiliate of TireRack and earn a commission if you purchase from a link on this site.  It is true that I am an affiliate and will earn a commission if you buy this or any other tire from a link on this site.  You should also know that if you buy a Michelin or another higher priced tire, my commission is greater.  I truly am sold on these tires but it is true that I am an affiliate of Tire Rack.

When I had my Grabbers installed I honestly didn’t expect to notice a big difference in normal driving. I mean I saw the tests and statistics and recognized that in crisis situations, bad weather and such that the Grabbers have tested to function the best. That is important to me because when I am driving in bad rain or have to stop quickly I want my tires to perform. However, I began noticing the responsiveness right away driving away from the garage that put the tires on. Tire Rack actually said I may experience decreased responsiveness due to the newness of the tires but I experienced just the opposite. It sounds cliche’ish but they really did feel like they were grabbing the road.

The next thing I experienced is a noticeably quieter ride.  I am more than pleased. If you need tires the Grabber HTS is the way to go.

I tried to prolong the life of my other tires and get as much as I could out of them. They were not quite to the wear bars but pretty close. But now I wish I would have put these on sooner. My thought before that best safety at the best price was a no brainer was right on but now when I drive on these I’m convinced even more. This is a no brainer. Tire Rack sent all the stuff with the tires. My installation turned out to be even less expensive than I planned.

These tires get 2 thumbs and even 2 big toes up. My hearty recommendation!
